In Istanbul’s Beyoğlu district, a man walked a woman around on the street with a collar around her neck and shared the moments on his social media account. Following the backlash over the images, teams from the Istanbul Police Department’s Security Branch took action. In the incident, which took place on Beyoğlu’s Büyükhendek Street, U.Y. (27) and N.B. (57) were taken into custody. Following police procedures, the two individuals were referred to the prosecutor’s office on charges of “inciting hatred or contempt among the public” and were subsequently arrested. Access to the shared footage was blocked by court order.
