BirGün reporter İsmail Arı was detained in Tokat on April 2, 2026, while on a holiday visit, on charges of “publicly disseminating misleading information,” and was subsequently arrested in Ankara. A report released by CHP member Utku Çakırözer noted that the censorship law has led to an increase in investigations and arrests targeting journalists. During the same period, police obstructed journalists’ activities, and coverage of court proceedings was also restricted.
