Five of 14 people detained in the Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office corruption investigation into Ataşehir Municipality were arrested and nine were released under judicial control. A criminal judgeship of peace arrested Acting Mayor Murat Güneş, former Deputy Mayor Leyla Terzi, municipal employee Mustafa Anıl Altan, Cleaning Services Director Cihan Karakaş and Halim Bak. Judicial control was imposed on nine people, including deputy mayors Aytekin Şahin and Ekrem Köse. The first operation against Ataşehir Municipality had been carried out on 18 April, when 20 people, including Mayor Onursal Adıgüzel, were detained and 19 were arrested. The Interior Ministry suspended Adıgüzel, and the municipal council elected CHP member Murat Güneş as acting mayor on 30 April. In a second operation on 3 October, police detained people including Güneş.
