Sixteen people were arrested in the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office investigation into allegations of bribery, corruption and irregularities at Mersin Metropolitan, Yenişehir and Mezitli municipalities. A criminal judgeship of peace ordered the arrest of Yenişehir Mayor Abdullah Özyiğit and five others from the same municipality, and Mezitli Mayor Ahmet Serkan Tuncer and nine others from that municipality. Of 60 people referred to the courthouse, arrest was requested for 50. The judgeship imposed house arrest on seven people and judicial control on one. Courthouse proceedings involving 36 people, including Mersin Metropolitan Mayor Vahap Seçer, were continuing when the report was published.
