Journalists Şaban Sevinç and Mustafa Balcı, who were detained as part of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office investigation into the fund case, were arrested on a charge of “publicly disseminating misleading information.” The journalists were detained over statements concerning AKP Deputy Chair and Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik. After police procedures, Sevinç and Balcı were referred to a judgeship with a request for their arrest and were subsequently arrested. The Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office had previously sought statements from journalists İsmail Saymaz, Murat Ağırel and Şaban Sevinç as suspects over press and social media statements concerning the fund investigation.
