Police intervened against workers protesting in Ankara over unpaid wages, severance payments, and insurance receivables at mines operated by Yıldızlar SSS Holding. Bağımsız Maden-İş Organizing Specialist Başaran Aksu, a union official, and two miners were detained outside the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. The union’s General President Gökay Çakır was detained at the union headquarters in Soma on a charge of “inciting the public to hatred and hostility.” The miners had met ministry officials the same day and demanded that a negotiating table be established with the company under the ministry’s arbitration. They also announced that they would march to the Presidency if no result was achieved.
