An ex officio investigation was launched into British economist Timothy Ash on a charge of “insulting the President” over remarks he made at a finance meeting in Bodrum. In a presentation assessing the impact of developments in world politics on global markets, Ash described some heads of state as “sociopaths” and mentioned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan together. The Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office announced that it launched an investigation into Ash following the remarks.
