In the retrial held in Istanbul on April 22, journalist Neşe İdil was once again sentenced to 1 year and 3 months in prison. Despite the Constitutional Court’s ruling that the previous verdict violated the constitution, the court upheld the original sentence on charges of “organization propaganda.” İdil’s lawyers argued that her posts fell under the scope of freedom of expression; the option to appeal the decision remains open.
