As part of an investigation into the Bornova Municipality in Izmir, Mayor Ömer Eşki and three municipal employees were detained on April 9, 2026. The investigation was launched following allegations that salaries were being paid without actual work being performed at the municipality, and the detainees were charged with “aggravated fraud” and “forgery of official documents.”
