Police intervened at a picnic organized by the Platform for Democratic Institutions on April 4, 2026, in Küçükçekmece, Istanbul, to mark Abdullah Öcalan’s birthday. Police intervened against the group that had gathered on the beach in the morning, detaining four people, including TJA activist Sebahat Tuncel. Children present at the scene were also affected during the intervention. Following public outcry, the police withdrew from the area shortly thereafter.
