The Ankara Regional Court of Appeals, 31st Criminal Chamber, rejected the appeals filed against the sentences and acquittals handed down in the case concerning the armed attack on academic Cenk Yiğiter outside his home in Ankara on May 20. The Chamber upheld the decisions regarding the defendants İkbal Önal, Atilla Karapınar, and Mehmet Karapınar, as well as the child E.A. who was involved in the crime. The court found the sentences handed down for the crimes of unlicensed possession of a firearm and intentional injury to be in accordance with the law and upheld the acquittal decision for the crime of threatening with a firearm. Thus, the prison sentences and fines imposed on the defendants by the local court have become final.
