The People’s Liberation Party (HKP) announced that its General Chairman, Nurullah Efe Ankut, was detained by police who arrived at his home in the morning on charges of “insulting the President.” According to the HKP’s statement, Ankut was taken to the Istanbul Anatolia Courthouse and gave a statement to the prosecutor’s office accompanied by party lawyers. It was stated that the investigation initiated by the Istanbul Anatolia Chief Prosecutor’s Office was based on a video shared by Ankut on his X account on February 12, 2025, containing allegations about President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s diploma and military service. The party announced that lawyers had been informed that there was a second arrest warrant for Ankut in the context of another case being conducted by the Ankara Chief Prosecutor’s Office.
