The Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG) released its report on human rights violations against journalists in January 2026. The report stated that 14 journalists were detained, 1 journalist was arrested, 22 journalists were prevented from following news stories, and access to 458 pieces of digital media content was blocked during the month. The DFG emphasized that violence and pressure against journalists increased with the attacks on Rojava. The report stated that Ajansa Welat reporter Nedim Oruç was beaten and detained in Cizre and then arrested, and that numerous journalists were subjected to police violence in Suruç and Van. The statement noted that as of February 3, 2026, there were 26 journalists detained in prisons.
