The justification of the acquittal verdict against journalist Melek Avcı in the lawsuit filed against her due to “making illegal organization propaganda” was announced. Ankara 19th High Criminal Court stated that Avcı’s digital media posts were considered within the scope of journalistic activity in line with the jurisprudence of the Court of Cassation and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

JINNEWS reporter Melek Avcı was summoned to testify on September 6, 2024, after which the indictment against her was accepted. At the end of the trial, the court acquitted her on April 29, 2025.

In the court’s reasoned decision, it was stated that although some of Avcı’s social media posts contained images of members of the organization, they did not contain weapons, violence or threats, and therefore did not constitute a direct propaganda crime. The decision emphasized that the posts were intended to provide information and could be considered within the scope of political or journalistic activity.
