Anadolu Agency did not broadcast CHP Chairman Özgür Özel’s speech at the commemoration ceremony for the 11th anniversary of the Soma disaster. The agency only reported Özel’s brief statement at the exit of Ulu Mosque.

Özgür Özel, in his speech at the commemoration in Soma, commemorated the 301 miners who lost their lives in the disaster and said, “Those who kicked and those who burned that mine will be held to account.” Özel said that the government interfered in the trial process, protected those responsible and suppressed the public demand for justice. Criticizing the changes in the court process, Özel said, “There is a system that rewards murderers. But we will not forget, we will not let them forget.”

Stating that Soma is a symbolic case for the Turkish working class, Özel emphasized that they will continue to fight for justice.
