The lawsuit against 20 protesters, who were taken into custody after a demonstration organized on Istiklal Street during the Gezi Park protests, concluded after five years of proceeding.
Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance issued an acquittal for the defendants, who were on trial with imprisonment claims for up to seven years due to ‘resisting to prevent duty’ and ‘violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations.’ The verdict underlined that the protesters have gathered following a call from the social media, stating, “It is impossible to state that this gathering was not peaceful.”
