Journalist Hasan Cemal was prosecuted on charges of “insulting the President” based on two tweets he posted in 2014 and 2016; the first hearing of the case will be held on April 12.
Cemal tweeted, “The only criterion of democracy is not only to oppose the military coup attempt, but also to say no to the deepening Erdoğan coup!” and said, “If the caliphate is to come back, the Caliph will probably be Tayyip Erdoğan.”
