CHP MP shares numbers on violations in August

Republican People’s Party (CHP) Istanbul MP Sezgin Tanrıkulu shared his “August 2020 Rights Violations Report.” According to the numbers in the report, rights to lives of 275 people were violated in the last month. 208 people, including five children, faced torture and mistreatment. At least three journalists were detained and two journalists were arrested. Lawsuits were filed against at least three journalists and investigations were opened against at least three journalists.

 

Access bans were issued against 21 Internet content. Investigations were opened against 10 people due to their statements or writings. At least 11 people were detained and one person was arrested due to their social media posts.

 

4 party/union executives were sentenced to imprisonment last month; 4 municipal assembly members were detained. The police intervened at least 40 events like press statements, leaflet distributions, meetings and demonstrations. At least 127 people were detained in the interventions; 10 people were arrested. Governorates and District Governorates banned and prevented at least 5 events, press statements, meetings, demonstrations, festivals, theater stagings or movie screenings.
