The march started by metal workers, who were fired from work and were forced to take unpaid leaves after becoming members of the United Metal-Labour Union of the Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey (DISK), was prevented by the police. Around 100 people, including union executives, were detained. Kocaeli Governorate had announced a demonstration ban in the province for 30 days due to COVID-19 after the workers had organised the march.
