27 women were acquitted of the charges related to their protest against the death of university student Özgecan Aslan, who was raped and brutally murdered in Tarsus district of Mersin. In the lawsuit filed due to “violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911,” Ankara 5th Criminal Court of First Instance indicated that peaceful meetings and demonstrations, as well as the right to freedom of expression are among the indispensable elements of democracy and that these rights are protected by the Constitution.
