Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ was acquitted in the lawsuit filed against him for revealing the identities of MİT members who lost their lives in Libya. Ankara 26th High Criminal Court acquitted him on the grounds that “the legal elements of the crime did not occur”.
In his defense, Özdağ stated that the names of the martyred MİT members had appeared in the press and that he had only said “May God have mercy”. He stated that MİT did not file a criminal complaint against him.
Özdağ had previously been arrested for 148 days on charges of “inciting the public to hatred and hostility”. Özdağ, who was released in this case, was also acquitted of the charge of “insulting the President”.
