A transgender male prisoner named Poyraz was found dead in his cell at Sincan Prison. It was alleged that the prosecutor’s office arrived at the prison for an investigation two days after the death and that witness statements were not taken. According to a report by Eylem Esen Arabacı from Pembe Hayat, four transgender male prisoners who had been held in isolation for a long time were taken to the psychiatric ward together on the same day, and when they returned to their cell, they found Poyraz hanging. It was stated that the prisoners first attempted to cut the rope with a lighter, and that despite the guards being called, the medical team took a long time to arrive. According to the prisoners, Poyraz’s pulse was very weak at first, his hair had been shaved off, and the rope he was hanging from was not a rope found in the cell. Lawyers stated that there were serious doubts about the incident being classified as a suicide, and that some guards had said after the incident, “He already had problems.”
