Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ announced on December 19 that he was being sued for statements he made about Sheikh Sait. Özdağ said in a speech in Kumluca district of Antalya that the Hınıs Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office had prepared an indictment under Article 130 of the Turkish Penal Code, citing his social media posts as grounds. The prosecutor’s office stated that Özdağ’s statements constituted the crime of insulting the memory of a person and demanded a prison sentence of between 3 months and 2 years.
