Tens of thousands of public workers affiliated with the United Public Workers’ Confederation walked off the job on December 19 while budget talks were underway and took to the streets in Ankara. The workers wanted to make a statement in front of the Dikmen Gate of the Turkish Grand National Assembly. Police blocked the area with barricades, preventing the workers from reaching the Assembly and redirecting the group to different locations. Confederation President Orhan Yıldırım stated that the Ankara Governor’s Office had imposed an arbitrary ban, preventing the public from reaching the Assembly, where the people’s budget was being discussed. The workers made their statements on Olgunlar Street.
