The Saturday Mothers/People, who have been seeking justice for their loved ones lost in custody for 30 years in Galatasaray Square, were selected as the winner of the Campaign category at the 2025 Freedom of Expression Awards presented by Index on Censorship. The award was announced at a ceremony held in London on November 19. The organization described the Saturday Mothers/People as “a symbol of peaceful resistance under global pressure.” In a statement, the Saturday Mothers said the award gave strength to their struggle. At the same ceremony, the Arts Award went to Algerian poet Mohamed Tadjadit, who is in prison; the Journalism Award went to Venezuelan journalist Carlos Correa; and the Jury Special Award went to Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.
