The Human Rights Association (İHD) Istanbul Branch Prison Commission brought attention to the situation of seriously ill prisoners during its 711th “F Sit-in” protest, highlighting the case of Yakup Akman, a seriously ill prisoner held at Marmara Campus Prison.
It was stated that Akman, who has permanent burns on his body due to a fire he suffered as a child, has difficulty breathing and swallowing, and that prison conditions make his treatment impossible. His mother demanded his release for treatment, saying, “My son’s wounds are infected, he has difficulty breathing, and he is not even given creams.”
The commission called on the authorities to protect the health and life rights of Akman and all sick prisoners and to ensure their access to treatment.
