The most shocking development of October was the attack on journalist Hakan Tosun, who lost his life. News of attacks, threats, detentions, and investigations targeting many journalists dominated the headlines. TELE1 was placed under a trustee, and RTÜK imposed fines on some channels. In October, at least eight journalists faced attacks, threats, or detention; 41 journalists appeared before judges in various cases. Throughout the month, verdicts were announced in three cases: one acquittal and two convictions.
