Bilge Kaan Şarbat, head of the CHP Kadıköy Youth Branch, was detained following a protest held in front of the Kadıköy Bull Statue on the evening of December 27 against the minimum wage being set below the poverty line. Members of the CHP Kadıköy Youth Branch marched to the Süreyya Opera House chanting the slogan, “We want a decent life, not a poverty wage.” Police detained Şarbat after the protest. Şarbat spent the night at the police station and was taken to Kartal Anadolu Courthouse on the morning of December 28. The prosecutor’s office referred Şarbat to the magistrate’s court with a request for detention, and the court issued a detention order.
