The indictment against 402 individuals, 105 of whom are in custody, in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality investigation has been accepted by the 40th Heavy Penal Court. The indictment accuses Ekrem İmamoğlu of being “the founder and leader of the organization” and seeks a prison sentence of up to 2,430 years. Imamoğlu is accused of 142 acts, including bribery, bid rigging, fraud, unlawful use of personal data, and concealment of evidence. The CHP describes the indictment as a political operation. The prosecution also claims that the CHP used personal data improperly and stated that the case file will be sent to the Supreme Court Chief Prosecutor’s Office. The indictment also included allegations of financial ties involving journalists Ruşen Çakır, Yavuz Oğhan, Şaban Sevinç, and Soner Yalçın; the journalists denied the allegations.
