The 9th hearing of the trial of journalist Abdurrahman Gök, who photographed Kemal Kurkut’s killing by police and is charged with “membership in an organization” and “organization propaganda,” was held at the Diyarbakır 5th Heavy Penal Court. In his defense, Gök stated that the essence of the trial was his taking photographs of Kurkut and that the statements of the confidential witness did not reflect the truth. The confidential witness claimed that he “reported in favor of the organization,” but Gök emphasized that the Mesopotamia Agency was established in 2018 and that he last went to Syria in 2017. The lawyers requested that the judicial control be lifted and that the identification records be included in the case file. The court decided to continue the ban on leaving the country and to reject the identification requests. The next hearing will be held on February 26, 2026.
