The first hearing date in the “Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality case,” in which Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu is also being tried, has been set for March 9, 2026. The Istanbul 40th Heavy Penal Court decided that the trial would be held at the Marmara Closed Prison complex in Silivri and set the maximum trial period at 4,600 days. The indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office included a total of 402 defendants, 105 of whom are in custody; İmamoğlu faces a total of 2,352 years in prison on 142 separate charges. The court ruled to continue the detention of the defendants in custody and issued arrest warrants for seven defendants.
