BİRTEK-SEN President Mehmet Türkmen and General Secretary Mikail Kılıçalp were charged with “incitement to commit a crime” and “insulting the judicial organs” due to the Özak Tekstil resistance. The final hearing of the case will be held on July 18 at Gaziantep 55th Criminal Court of First Instance. The union stressed that the case targets not only the two unionists, but the right to organize of the entire working class. Türkmen, who had previously been arrested and placed under house arrest, had called on workers to stop work and workers who had left Öz İplik-İş had organized in BİRTEK-SEN. “Union activity is not a crime”, the union said in a statement
