The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office decided that there were “no grounds for prosecution” in the investigation into a defamatory post about Eren Keskin, Co-Chair of the Human Rights Association (İHD), on social media.
The prosecutor’s office stated that the elements of the crime were not present because Keskin’s name was not explicitly mentioned in the post and the insult was not directed at a specific person.
Keskin reacted to the decision by sharing it on social media, stating, “The prosecutor’s office did not see the sexist insult; it considered it freedom of expression.” Her lawyers said that this decision legitimized attacks against human rights defenders and cast a shadow over the impartiality of the judiciary.
