A disciplinary investigation was launched against a student due to incidents that occurred during the screening of the documentary “Ali: A Free World in His Dreams” at the 11th Youth Film Festival held at Hacettepe University’s Beytepe Campus in April 2025.
The university student defended himself against the charge of “damaging public property.” Although the investigation file stated that there was no evidence, the university administration requested that the student be punished with a “one-semester suspension.”
The student stated that he was being investigated on the grounds that he said, “Ali Ismail’s spirit will live on in universities,” that his right to defense was violated without any evidence being presented to him, and that the possible punishment would cause irreparable damage to his education.
