The Constitutional Court ruled on February 16, 2026, that the petition regarding university student Aydın Erdem, who lost his life due to a police bullet during protests in Diyarbakır on December 6, 2009, was “inadmissible.” The family and the Diyarbakır branch of the Human Rights Association (İHD) filed the petition, claiming that the right to life, the right to an effective remedy, and the right to a trial within a reasonable time had been violated. Lawyer Yakup Güven stated that the investigation had not been conducted effectively and that the perpetrators had not been identified. Following the decision, Güven announced that they would take the case to the European Court of Human Rights.
