The Union of Turkish Bar Associations issued a statement on the investigations against CHP mayors. The statement emphasized the principle that “Freedom is essential, restriction is the exception” and called for detention not to turn into punishment and for investigations to be carried out quickly and transparently. The TBB demanded respect for the right to defense and the immediate release of detainees with health problems. It was stated that the process will be followed in accordance with universal principles of law.
