The request for release of Tayfun Kahraman, a defendant in the Gezi Park trial, has been denied once again. His wife, Meriç Kahraman, stated in a social media post that their 32-page appeal was rejected by the Istanbul 14th High Criminal Court with just “two lines.”
Meriç Kahraman emphasized that the Constitutional Court’s rulings on the violation of Tayfun Kahraman’s rights and his release had been disregarded, saying, “This situation concerns not only us but the constitutional guarantees of every individual in our country.”
Lawyer Cansu Çiftçi also stated that the court’s failure to comply with the Constitutional Court’s ruling was a clear violation of the constitution and announced that they would appeal to the Constitutional Court again.
On July 31, 2025, the Constitutional Court ruled that Kahraman’s right to a fair trial had been violated and that a retrial and release were necessary; however, the local court did not comply with the decision.
