A summary was prepared against Republican People’s Party (CHP) Istanbul MP Mehmet Bekaroğlu due to the press statement he organised at the Parliament after the Parliamentary question he presented on the Wealth Fund remained unanswered. In the statement, Bekaroğlu had indicated that he couldn’t get a reply to his Parliamentary question and that the reply given later “lacked seriousness”, stating that Vice President Fuat Oktay is ignoring the Parliament and that such an attitude by an appointed bureaucrat against those who are elected is unacceptable. Bekaroğlu had further pointed out that this situation is a habit from the days of the coup and resembled Oktay to the leader of the September 12 military coup, Kenan Evren. Because of this statement, Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office charged Bekaroğlu with “publicly insulting a public officer based on his duty” and prepared a summary to revoke his Parliamentary immunity.
