Residents of Bentbahçe Neighborhood in Birecik district of Şanlıurfa reacted to the sewage pipes of TOKİ housing project passing through their neighborhood. Claiming that the sewage water would mix with the Mezra Pond and drinking water wells, the residents wanted to prevent the work.
While it was claimed that the fish in the stream died due to the sewage water flowing through the temporary pipes, the people of the neighborhood protested with Turkish flags. There was a short-lived brawl with the gendarmerie who came to the scene after the work stopped.
Residents of the neighborhood called on the authorities, saying that the mixing of sewage water into the pond and drinking water would cause serious health problems.
