A lawsuit was filed against the decision to suspend CHP Adana Metropolitan Mayor Zeydan Karalar from office. Karalar’s lawyers stated that the decision was unlawful and asked for a stay of execution.
In the petition submitted to Adana Administrative Court on Duty by lawyers Hüseyin Ersöz, Battal Özer and Assoc. Prof. Erkan Sarıtaş, the Ministry of Interior requested the annulment of the decision.
In his social media post, lawyer Ersöz emphasized that “the accusations against Zeydan Karalar are not directly related to his current position and that the decision is unlawful in terms of ‘reason’ and ‘subject matter’.” He also stated that the suspension was not only an administrative action, but also an interference with fundamental rights such as the right to be elected and freedom of expression.
Karalar was arrested and sent to prison on July 8 as part of operations against CHP municipalities and suspended by the Ministry of Interior.
