Journalist and writer Kaan Göktaş, who shared a poem written in the 18th century on Facebook, was sentenced to 2 years in prison by the Silivri 1st Criminal Court of First Instance. Göktaş shared the poem of Sünbülzade Vehbi Efendi, a master in satirical art, commenting on a newspaper article about 2 years ago that President Erdoğan withdrew his complaint against a citizen for “reciting poetry by heart”, commenting “this is the only poem I know by heart”. He was convicted on the grounds that he “insulted Erdoğan” with this poem.
