The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) imposed administrative fines on SZC TV, HBO Max, and MUBİ. RTÜK stated that the remarks made by host Ekrem Açıkel while evaluating the performance of ministers on the program “İçimizden Biri” (One of Us) aired on SZC TV exceeded the limits of criticism and imposed an administrative fine of 1 percent on the channel. CHP RTÜK member Tuncay Keser voted against the decision, saying the fine violated freedom of expression. Keser emphasized that administrators must be open to harsh criticism, referring to the case law of the Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights. RTÜK also imposed a 5 percent administrative fine on HBO Max for some episodes of the series “Jasmine” being “contrary to national and moral values” and decided to remove the series from its catalog. MUBİ was also fined 5% for the film “Passages” on grounds of “obscenity” and “public morality,” and the content was ordered to be removed from broadcast.
