The Turkish Journalists’ Association, the Turkish Publishers’ Association, the Turkish Journalists’ Union, the Turkish Writers’ Union, and PEN Turkey issued a joint statement regarding an attack on a publishing house’s stand and books at the 18th Çukurova Book Fair organized by TÜYAP in Adana. The statement noted that the attack on the Pankuş Publishing House stand during the fair, held between January 10 and 18, was an attack on freedom of thought and expression. The professional organizations emphasized that physical violence against writing and thought is incompatible with a democratic social order. The statement called on the Adana Governor’s Office and the Ministry of Interior to conduct an effective investigation into the attack and to take the necessary security measures to prevent similar incidents.
