The Beyoğlu District Governor’s Office banned all protests and demonstrations in the district for 24 hours starting on May 31. The Governor’s Office argued that the gatherings planned for Taksim and Tünel Squares could disrupt public order. Under the decision, press conferences, sit-ins, and the distribution of leaflets were also banned. Taksim Square was cordoned off with barriers.
