On May 31, restrictions were imposed on transportation routes in and around Taksim following instructions from the Istanbul Governor’s Office. Metro Istanbul suspended operations at the Taksim Metro Station, the Taksim-Kabataş Funicular Line, and the Maçka-Taşkışla Cable Car Line. It also closed the Istiklal Avenue exit of Şişhane Station to passengers. The decision was made ahead of a planned statement marking the anniversary of the Gezi protests.
