The Mardin Governorate banned all protests and demonstrations across the province for 15 days. The Governorate decree indicated that even cars from different provinces will not be allowed in Mardin. The written statement by the Governorate asserted that an intelligence report has arrived that protests will be organized against the hunger strike ongoing in prisons with the demand for the solitary confinement of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan to be revoked. The statement further indicated that the protests at Boğaziçi University are attempted to be spread to other provinces over time.
