Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office requested the arrest of journalist Timur Soykan for his social media posts on the detention of CHP mayors. The prosecutor’s office claimed that Soykan’s posts were capable of disrupting public peace and inciting citizens to illegal actions.
Soykan’s posts such as “The regime declares that it no longer has the problem of convincing the public about the corruption operations…” and “The coup continues. The will of the people is being usurped…” were cited as evidence. The prosecutor’s office requested Soykan’s arrest on the grounds of “publicly disseminating misleading information” and “incitement to commit a crime”.
