The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office appealed the ruling issued for Mezopotamya Ajansı reporters Mehmet Aslan and Esra Solin Dal and journalist Erdoğan Alayumat. The Istanbul 25th Heavy Criminal Court had acquitted Aslan and Dal on June 9, while sentencing Alayumat to 1 year and 3 months in prison on the allegation of “making propaganda for an organisation.” In its appeal, the prosecutor’s office requested that the acquittals be overturned and that Alayumat also be sentenced on the charge of “membership of an organisation.”
