The prosecutor demanded a sentence for journalist Furkan Karabay on charges of “targeting people who took part in the fight against terrorism”, “insult” and “publicly disseminating misleading information”. The case is based on Karabay’s social media posts about the investigation into Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer. The first hearing was held at Istanbul 22nd High Criminal Court. Karabay rejected the charges, saying “As journalists, we are responsible to the public, we will not give up.” The court accepted the request for time for defense and adjourned the hearing to October 2, 2025.
