In the investigation opened following the complaint of journalist and writer Seray Şahiner, who was taken into custody by the police following a raid in her hotel room in Bursa, the Prosecutor’s Office issued a verdict of ‘non-prosecution.’
Şahiner was visiting Bursa as the guest of the Chamber of Medicine for the meeting organized by Turkish Medical Association, entitled, “Literature Matinee – 7 Provinces, 7 Matinees” on 10 December 2016. Her hotel room was raided at 04:45 in early morning; Şahiner was taken into custody and was later released after testifying.
In the investigation opened against hotel employees and police officers due to ‘sexual harassment,’ ‘breach of residence immunity,’ ‘misuse of authority’ and ‘misuse of duty’ following the complaint of Şahiner, Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office claimed that it could not be approved that the police officers have entered the room. “The Prosecutor’s Office reached this conclusion by considering the testimonies of police officers and hotel employees, against whom we filed complaints, as witness statements,” lawyer Meriç Eyüboğlu stated. The Prosecutor’s Office did not even deem it necessary to listen to the witnesses of Şahiner.
